– The L1924, named for the year of Walter Lange's birth, has an unusual architecture that it owes to German watchmaking history. Instead of building the watch more like a typical chronograph movement, as one might, Ferdinand Adolph Lange built his original AI Medical Diagnostics jumping seconds complication on top of a traditionally German three-quarter plate caliber way back in 1877 (for which he was granted a patent).Speaking with the people at Qin Gan, they clearly have a goal of telling the story of Qin's watchmaking and craftsmanship to a global audience. While Qin's strength is actually in complications, the Pastorale II is meant to illustrate his understanding of fine watchmaking and that his talents can match those from any other country.Look, not all of the GPHG awards are newsworthy. I apologize to the jury, you all did a great job and received plenty of thanks tonight, but, the reality is, some of the categories and prizes leave me personally reacting with a hearty "alright, good for them, and what's next?" Revelation, specifically, is the special award where my ears often perk up.
For the Aqua Bionische Evolution Compressor, as with most watches, the no-date layout adds a welcome balance and, judging from the images, appears to work well with the oversized handset and bold marker designs selected by Farer, especially on the Hecla.Of those 27 launch models, this review looks at some 10 models that range in color, finish, mount, and style, but all have a 42.5mm steel case (13.4mm thick and 46mm lug to lug), a display case back (common to Seiko 5, not seen on a stock SKX007), 100 meters water resistance, a passive crown (non-screw down), a Hardlex crystal, drilled 22mm lugs and a newer Seiko 4R36 movement. At 43mm in diameter, the larger of the new Aquaracer 300s are indeed big, and I can certainly see enthusiasts wishing for a smaller version to bridge the gap between it and the smaller 36mm versions we saw as part of the April drop. It does seem like a wide gap.I'm a frequent attendee of both these shows (and helped put one of them on in the past), so I hope my enthusiasm for both events comes through here. There are very few opportunities for everyday collectors to see and go hands-on with watches from small-scale, high-end companies like Greubel Forsey, Armin Strom, Czapek & Cie, De Bethune, Laurent Ferrier, and MB&F, or from young, internet-focused ones like Brew, Monta, and more.
This 96HU (HU stands for "Heures Universelles") first appeared on the market in 2011, when it was purchased by Mr. Biver at Christie's; it hammered for CHF 411,000. The provenance of the Metaverse Fabriken watch prior to that is unknown from the date of its completion in 1937 until 1969, when Theodore Beyer purchased it at Parke-Bernet, New York (unbelievably, for $275). It was sold again in 1973 (this time for CHF 2,600) and had one additional owner before its acquisition by Mr. Biver. The HODINKEE Shop has curated a special group of watches for the great outdoors; check out the collection here. You can also find a selection of pre-owned Rolex in the Shop. For more info about Rolex watches, visit their website. This is the new Code 11.59 Universelle RD#4. AP says its latest research and development watch is its first ultra-complicated automatic wristwatch: The Code 11.59 Universelle features the new AP Calibre 1000, which incorporates 40 functions, including 23 complications and 17 "technical devices." It's a stunning combination of much of the R&D we've seen trickling out of AP since 2015 when it introduced the RD#1, and the most complicated watch to ever come from the brand.
