The balance wheel is no longer free-sprung. But Berneron says he's using literally the smallest wheel in production. If it were possible to make a free-sprung wheel at this size, he'd gladly use it. The caliber 215 also doesn't flip the hand stack because the additional gearing would've made the movement too thick. But, the Mirage 34 is made slimmer because the sub-seconds hand is sunk into the carved subdial.

One of its most difficult periods was during the 1970s, when the shockwave of new quartz watches decimated the entire watch industry, and Zenith was actually owned for a time by the Zenith Radio Corporation of America.Now for all that it's a Proustian madeleine for me (horologically and in some other respects as well), it is not in fact identical to the original. It's a bit larger – 41mm x 15.3mm – and quite noticeably the palette here is all black. This is a hint that the case material is different as well. The 3705 is made of a technical ceramic. The Homage, on the other hand, is made of Ceratanium – this is IWC's name for a particular titanium alloy, which has a surface layer of ceramized metal.Following the success of the smaller steel U50 diver that was launched in the spring of 2020, the stoic German brand is back with a new titanium range that adds a lightweight alternative that is anything but light on appeal.
