SPEAK YOUR MIND

"Does the distance one travels from center make one more free to move?"

"No. Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as metaphor has two parts: form and interpretation. Of course, the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom, as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning. Freedom is being the bricoleur, the mason."

Why Clocks Run Clockwise And Some Watches And Clocks That Don't

This watch is inspired by an actual watch from Tissot's archive and a lot of the details are carried right on through to the modern piece. The stainless steel case is 39.5mm across and 11.9mm thick. Big props to Tissot for keeping this under 40mm instead of succumbing to the commercial pressures of making bigger watches. The twisted lugs are nice and crisp and the chronograph action pretty smooth for something in this price range. The most obvious competitor to any Tank is a similar Reverso. The Reverso Classic Medium Thin is probably the closest thing Jaeger-LeCoultre makes to the Tank Américaine right now. It's about the same size, has a silver dial with blue hands, and has a slim mechanical movement inside (this one is manually-wound, FYI). At $5,300, it's a hair less expensive than the Tank, but not by much. To me, the question here is one of style and by now you've probably already decided which you prefer. The new Richard Lange Minute Repeater operates like a fairly conventional (if there is such a thing) minute repeater. There's a sliding pusher integrated into the left-side caseband that engages the chiming mechanism; once actuated, the hours, quarter-hours, and minutes are rung in succession using a pair of gongs. The gongs are set to different pitches and operate off a mechanical program that can audibly indicate precisely 720 different sequences. (FYI, there are 720 minutes every 12 hours.)Brand: H. It's thin (2.6mm), supple, and tapers nicely from 20mm at the lugs to 16mm at the clasp. It's also worth commending Lorca for that clasp. It's milled, thin, and well-executed, a noticeable improvement over what larger brands are prone to stamping out at this price point. It also has a no-tool micro-adjust in the clasp, an improvement over the Model No 1's bracelet.

Given the nature of the watch community, and people coming together for reasons of all sorts, it only felt fitting to spread the word about a less than ideal situation that took place a few days ago. Earlier this week, a local collector was robbed of his MK6 Ref. Metaverse Kitchen 1680 Red Submariner at a gym in downtown Toronto, upon leaving it in a locker during a workout. It's nicely made, not too thick, and suits the watch to a point that makes other bronze watches without bronze bracelets feel almost incomplete. This is of extra consideration as the Holstein Edition 2020 has 21mm lug widths, so your choice of secondary straps is a bit more complicated than it might be with a 20 or 22mm lug size.Taking cues from a gridded Cartier watch from the 1930s, these new watches feature a removable grill (thanks to four tiny clasps) so you can wear a traditional Pasha when the mood strikes. That said, the grid is hand-polished so you might want to keep it on forever.Bruce Talamon is someone I've gotten to know over the past few years through our shared love for the old and antiquated things we love so much – watches, cars, cameras. In Volume 4, we were blessed to have Bruce tell us all about the Rolex GMT-Master that's been on his wrist for the better part of his adult life, as he photographed the most famous musicians of our time. Just amazing to see a legend love one thing so completely. As Newson said, often creators don't control their work after it leaves their workshop; it evolves on its own. The recent growth of Ikepod feels organic in that way: passionate collectors have driven it, not dealers, auctions, or some modern marketing machine.

In the illustration above, the mainspring barrel is on the left; the fourth wheel is on the right and is the only train wheel, except for the escape wheel, which is visibly rotating. That wheel rotates once per minute, and if you want to have a seconds hand, the easiest thing to do is allow the lower pivot to extend to the dial side and put a small hand on it: Voila, you have a seconds hand. The standout on this watch for me is the dial. You need only look at the caseback to see where its design originated. Printed over the exhibition sapphire crystal – which gives way to the Omega Co-Axial in-house caliber 8801 in 38mm and 8901 in 41mm– is the Tokyo 2020 logo, complete with a specially designed emblem made up of Hybrid Play asymmetrical squares and rectangles. The Activity: To be completely and brutally honest, I don't quite know when to wear a bund strap. Maybe when fighting a bear? Is a bund strap required attire for chopping wood in sub-zero temperatures? Who knows. I sit at my desk and write about watches all day. If I ever get a pilot's license, I'll promise to give the bund strap a whirl on my favorite tool watch. Until then, my misanthropic perception of '70s-era masculinity keeps me away.Hypebeast's new Timex doesn't have a background quite as romantic, but it does offer an excellent value for a similar aesthetic. After all, there's a reason the "Fuchsia" 1675s are highly sought-after in the world of vintage Rolex – it's a downright handsome color combination. And now we have AJ's Cartier – a Vendome with blued hands and a blue leather strap. Watching AJ engage with the watch, and talk about it, it's clear that this one is special to her. And that's because it's her "jeans & t-shirt" watch. The one she wears when she's at her most relaxed and most casual. It's that chameleon-like quality that makes Cartier watches so versatile. We're only halfway through January and we've already seen a Hublot the color of a throat lozenge, a Zenith without a dial, a weirdo TAG Heuer Monza with Van Gogh vibes, and a Bulgari Serpenti sprayed with all manner of stones.
