“It’s more of a futuristic, high-tech feel to our facilities. Laser Quest’s themes that they have are nice, but they might be a little bit dated. So our intention is to kind of bring the facility into the 21st century and make things a little bit more exciting,” said McCullough.

Just like other amusement venues, Planet Lazer’s locations in British Columbia were temporarily closed during the pandemic, but reopened in July. The company now has a number of safety protocols in place, including a screening process.

Customers will be given a questionnaire asking if they have had contact with anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 or had any symptoms themselves. They will also go through temperature checks and sanitize their hands, but masks will be optional.

“Some customers don’t want to wear them, and we feel that once the screening process has happened at the front door, then if they’re not showing symptoms and their temperature is good it might not be necessary to wear a mask,” said McCullough.

He said employees at Planet Lazer will be wearing masks and gloves, and carrying out a thorough cleaning regimen. He also said occupancy levels will be lower than usual.

Following Laser Quest’s closure, some Reginans expressed frustration over not getting a response from the company about refunds for deposits they had already paid for bookings. One of those people was Kari-Lyn Nadine Galinèc, who paid a $105 deposit for for a birthday party for her son in February. Said she was told by Laser Quest that she could get her deposit back or wait until they reopened. After hearing news of the closure, she had been unable to reach anyone at the company.
