The blue strap is meant to have a cordura (on the outside) and leather (on the underside)-like effect, but it is, in fact, rubber. This is a really soft and comfortable strap. With the size of the watch, you almost forget you're wearing it when it is on. But the color and playfulness of the blue and red offer plenty of reasons to look down at your wrist. The strap is affixed to a matching stainless steel buckle which again sports the Zenith star insignia, the same as the rotor. The next major update came in 1999, when the Repetition Minutes Aerospace was offered as a COSC-certified chronometer. References were updated to E/F/K65362 and metaverse Autobahn this would be the swan song for the B65-powered Aerospace line.I'm back at the Key West Ferry Terminal and I already miss that tiny sliver of sand in the Caribbean. I had come to test out my "desert island watch," but I found instead that it's a much better piece to have at a bar with a bunch of watch friends than it is to actually carry out. Some things, I've learned, are better to simply theorize about than to actually do. In the real world, the "desert island watch" thing doesn't really matter.
Quick Take: Don't get me wrong. The Tambour Street Diver is a cool watch. If I were interested in a compressor-style watch made for a contemporary design audience? It would be a great choice. But man, what about the Oris Aquis Caliber 400? I thought they had it in the bag. If Budget Hacker Kits we as an industry can't reward independent brands for taking a chance on an impressive, proprietary new movement, then what are we even doing? It's what the military actually uses. Plenty of watch companies make watches that theoretically could be used for active duty, but strip them down and they're simply luxury products. There's nothing wrong with that, either. No sensible government organization is going to blow thousands of dollars of taxpayer's money on luxury watches just for folks to abuse them in the field. That's why there's the Marathon Navigator, so they don't have to.Of course, this isn't '92 and so improvements have been made to this throwback dial. AP reworked the dial's texture making the grain finer (and brighter), resulting in an effect that plays differently depending on lighting conditions. The blue hue is obtained using PVD and then covered with a translucent coating that brings out the color. The date window is color-matched to the dial with a midnight blue backdrop.
All in all, the Edgemere is a pretty compelling watch. Sure, not all the color combinations are ideal for me, but that's why there are four distinct models. The case geometry, dial finishing, and attention to detail all belie the watch's affordable price and make this a great value pick for micro-brand lovers and general watch fans alike. The Martenero is available now, directly from Martenero, and all colors are Space Robotics priced at $550.The Ref. 15500ST is the latest stainless-steel Royal Oak. Because the CODE 11.59 by Audemars Piguet was a hot topic at SIHH 2019, the new 15500ST did not receive as much attention as it deserved. There is no significant deviation from the basic Royal Oak design, but there are some major updates and changes. All told, the 2597 is an immensely cool and very rare watch that can also be found double-signed by Tiffany, Gubelin, and others. Values are high and climbing, with A+ examples like this one (offered by Phillips in November of 2017) selling for serious coin – CHF 540,500 before premium. Those curious can check out these lots, including this double-signed Series 1 example on a bracelet offered in 2019 via Bonhams or this more patinated Series 2 example from Phillips sold in May of 2018.The Hublot Big Bang Camo Texas is limited to 25 pieces, each priced at $18,800.
