Jon Hamm returns to SNL

Jon Hamm returned to 30 Rock (the building, not the show) for a second engagement hosting Saturday Night Live. The most Mad Men-themed bit may have been his monologue:

However, the show played off the Draper persona (at least the version from SNL’s earlier “Don Draper’s Guide to Picking Up Women“) by having Hamm portray Massachusetts Senator-Elect Scott Brown:

There was also a hint of Mean Draper in this fauxmercial, which also featured musical guest Michael Buble:

Yet somehow, I think a fair number of Basketcases will be most interested in last night’s SNL Digital Short:

Thanks to television’s Andy Levy, we also have the inspiration for Sergio: Tim Capello’s “I Still Believe.”

  1. Lesli Linka Glatter won the DGA for Mad Men! Wooo!

  2. I thought I might die when the Lost Boys-inspired short played. DIE!!

  3. Speaking of the DGA, Christina looked amazing there: http://jezebel.com/5460669/a-sight-for-four-eyes

  4. The show was great, and Jon was wonderful, as usual. So glad I recorded it.

  5. The Scott Brown skit was hysterical.

  6. Loved the fauxmercial. That Michael Buble (about whom I knew little, sad to say, until last night) can hold his own in the Republic of Funny.

“You are on the thinnest of ice.” Very funny, yet also a rather Don Draper thing to say.

I loved the show. Here’s hoping Jon will be invited back to host yet another time, and we’ll see even more of his inner goofball.

Yes, SNL writers: Jon’s a hot guy. Yes, he plays a scary man in a suit on TV. But there’s someone else in there, and I’d love to see THAT guy drive for a while.

  7. His range is remarkable – Sergio and Scott Brown are no doubt destined for the halls of SNL glory as was John Ham the last go-round. But even better he looked like he was enjoying himself the whole time and making even weaker material shine. Not sure we could expect this from Messrs Hall and Cranston.

Mad Men star and universally acknowledged dreamboat Jon Hamm hosted Saturday Night Live last night for the second time in two years. No wonder they brought him back so soon: It was one of the best episodes all season. And the writers made ample use of his strapping bod …

  9. Liked the Hamm & Buble commercial. I was almost expecting Jon to reach up Buble's pant leg and give him what-for.

  10. Now that SNL's over, do you think Jon is gonna stop shaving again? When's he gonna film 30 Rock? Bet Tina's gonna force him to shave again…

  11. #9 Andrew,

    LOL.

"I will ruin you. Do what I say …"

  12. I just watched the Hamm & Buble commercial. I am in tears laughing. Michael Buble held his own very well, and Jon Hamm, well done!
