Both Regina divisions have been spared from any confirmed cases as of Tuesday midday, according to spokespeople. The same goes for Saskatoon Public Schools. A spokesperson for Prairie Valley School Division, which surrounds Regina, said the same. Prairie Spirit School Division, which surrounds Saskatoon, also said it has no cases to report.
Moe said during an event in Saskatoon Tuesday that there “will be cases from time to time” among young people, as there were before the return to school.
“What’s important, and what people can have faith in, is that Saskatchewan has put forward the testing capacity to ensure that we can identify those,” he said.
“We have been able to control the spread of this virus reasonably well,” he added. “I suspect that those same measures that we are using in the broader community are going to be very effective in our schools as well.”
Pat Maze, president of the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation, said teachers remain on guard for more cases.
“We’re very concerned given that, in the first week, we’ve had cases at three schools,” he said. “I think every teacher and every school worker is concerned that they’re going to contract it and take it home to their family.”
