'Minecraft' Realms Multiplayer Finally Heads To Apple TV

If you've been wanting to play Minecraft with your gamers on the Apple TV It's time to start getting excited. The latest update to the Apple TV version of this game's success has enabled "Realms," Minecraft's subscription-based multiplayer system. The latest version also comes with Xbox Live authentication support that allows players to access their linked avatars, character skins, and other information.

When you purchase a Realms account, it's just like getting an actual Minecraft server, only it's managed by Microsoft so you don't need to mess with things like hosting or IP addresses. You have full control over who can access your private Minecraft Realm. This way you don't have to worry about anyone destroying your world as you race around fighting explosions of Creepers or creating insane recreations of King's Landing from Game of Thrones. You can buy a two- or 10-player Realm of your own for $3.99 and $7.99 for each.

Unfortunately, those with existing Realms subscriptions on Mac, Linux or PC aren't able to play with their iOS or Apple TV brethren; there are two distinct Realms systems that include PCs, as well as one that is compatible with iOS, Android and Windows 10 users. We contacted the company to find out if plans exist to connect the two systems.

The procedurally-generated worlds of Minecraft deserve to be explored with others; now Apple TV and iOS fans have a chance to do just that... as long as they stick to their own platform.
