Going on a long, distant trip? Do not forget your digital devices!

I'd like to share with you a story from my last Arctic cruise. It was an amazing, National Geographic journey thru the ice, back, with polar Bears, and many more creatures. There would be snow everywhere, ice everywhere. Man-made machinery was set to take on the elements and cut through the frozen northern desert. It sounded like an immense project, a massive fight with the weather and the pole.

I was instructed to carry all technology that could be transported inside my bag. I did take my laptop along and also put in a larger display to increase the workspace. As per their report, power was not an issue. It was going to be a challenging task however, I wasn't sure what I could expect. youtube to mp3 I had no idea that two days into the 14 day journey, I would be without Internet connection, and then disappear off the face of Earth for the next 10 days. When it finally happened I was stunned. No trip, no matter how far or difficult is going to cause me to disconnect from the internet. There was not only some unfinished business that I had to address during the following week and I did not prepare for the downtime.

Nobody cares if you have to leave your home. Internet is everywhere. If your connection at home is slow at times and you are unable to connect, try to locate an McDonalds nearby and join the free WiFi. Bring your laptop and relax in the cafe at Starbucks for the rest of your life or sit down at a table and browse the Internet to the fullest extent you wish. No cafe or restaurant can aid you from north. There are hours away from the closest generator that produces electricity. There's no free Internet accessible. Two alternatives are available in these circumstances: turn off your internet and bring your satellite access.

I am unable to afford a satellite phone. It's just too expensive, especially to use for Internet access. However, I'm going to create a massive audio and video collection for the next time before I travel across the globe without Internet access. Last time , I only had two songs. The songs were downloaded back at the time, so all I had to listen to was three jazz songs and a song I couldn't remember what it was called. It's that simple. 4 songs for two weeks of total silence. If I had known that this would happen, I would have prepared. I would have loaded my laptop up with TV shows, films, music videos, and audio files that contained songs and podcasts. I would spend countless hours listening to my favourite podcasts. It's very easy to download them, then convert to mp3 and save them on my computer. After that, I could lay in mattress and listen to the podcasts I like at home. It was my"golden hour, two weeks of gold. It turned out to have been 2 weeks filled with staring at ceilings and rushing passengers to meet them every when they made a noise.

It was empty physically and literally. I've never been so bored. The ice was way too thick. I was aware that this would be the problem. So the boat had to be turned around and return towards civilization. This was not a huge surprise, it meant that many hours could have been spent listening and watching podcasts, DIY videos for home repairs, or just listening to music. Next time , I'll convert Youtube videos into mp4 and mp3 format on my laptop, then bring them with and enjoy my favorite tunes from my laptop. Music can lift your mood and help you feel better. You can download Netflix and Hulu movies onto your phone to stream offline. They can also be carried along on the long journey across the arctic. It is not a good idea to spend your time bored. Good luck!
