Saskatoon police have laid a charge of arson with disregard for human life after they were called to a home in the Meadowgreen neighbourhood on Wednesday evening.

Patrol officers were sent to a home in the 100 block of Shaftsbury Place around 6 p.m. after receiving a report about a man trying to light the house on fire using gasoline.

In a media release, city police said the suspect allegedly ran off after being confronted by the homeowner. The release noted the homeowner and the suspect were known to each other.

Officers reportedly found an empty jerry can at the scene and saw fire damage to the exterior of the house. Police then went to a home in the 3300 block of Centennial Drive, where they arrested the 31-year-old suspect without further incident.

Police said everyone inside the home at the time of the incident got to safety and no injuries were reported.
