The MeetingWords server has suffered a hard disk failure in early May 2024. It will be offline indefinitely.
We will attempt to recover data from the hard disk, but it may not be possible.
MeetingWords was always intended for short-term collaborative editing, not long-term storage, so there was never a comprehensive data backup and recovery solution installed.
MeetingWords supplied free collaborative editing from 2010 to 2024. Fourteen years is a long run for a tiny service! We never received major funding, and always operated at a loss. A few people donated small amounts of money, and we are very grateful for your contributions.
The Etherpad Classic software we used for MeetingWords is now very old and unsupported. We are investigating both the new, rewritten Etherpad software, and other software such as HedgeDoc. We are exploring options to possibly have a reborn MeetingWords running in the latter half of 2024.
As an alternative to MeetingWords, we recommend the free or paid tier of HackMD.io. There is also a list of servers running the new Etherpad software here: Sites That Run Etherpad.
