Barring a sudden and unexpected change in circumstances, the Regina High Schools Athletic Association will not hold any inter-school sports this fall.
The decision, made by Regina’s school divisions and announced Thursday, affects athletes and coaches involved in football, soccer, volleyball and cross-country and is due to precautions that are deemed imperative due to COVID-19.
However, all RHSAA schools will have the option to conduct extra-curricular athletics, practices and/or intramural sports, providing that all safety protocol is adhered to and agreement is reached between administration, athletic directors, coaches and student-athletes.
“It is essential to note that, due to the unpredictability of COVID, any of the following directions are subject to change on short notice,” an RHSAA media release noted.
In cases where in-school sports do proceed, athletes involved in football, cross-country and soccer can start up Monday. Completion dates would be Oct. 17 (cross-country), Oct. 31 (soccer) and Nov. 14 (football).
