– In this episode we have the tale of two adventurous watches, the latest generation of the Rolex Explorer II and the more budget-friendly Marathon Navigator. Given that they've each authored a story about one of these watches over the course of the past week, I asked Jon and Cole to join me on the mics to chat about this latest evolution of the Explorer II's fifty-year history and a humble pilot's watch with ample do-it-all charm.Nowadays I don't fault folks who wear homage watches. The new Digital Crown has a larger diameter and deeper grooves than any previous crown, to ensure ease of use when wearing gloves.Cardona also received a Pogue from Folk at the end of last season, but the vintage Seiko he brought to show us is actually of a different breed – it's a super clean example of Seiko's ref. 6105 dive watch, made famous as the "Captain Willard" after appearing in Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 Vietnam War epic Apocalypse Now. But Cardona's watch is more than movie memorabilia – it was actually originally purchased by a serviceman during the Vietnam War and was worn throughout the conflict.No matter where you fall on this release, it's great to see these collaborations continue for the sake of democratizing luxury watches (and watches of historical significance).
