How to Cure Cold and Flu at Home All by Yourself?

3 min readJun 9, 2023

Colds and flu are viral illnesses, making antibiotics ineffective against them; however, there are ways you can alleviate symptoms, including drinking plenty of water and taking some ibuprofen for pain and fever relief.

Reduce exposure to people, wash your hands frequently and disinfect high-touch surfaces.

1. Drink plenty of water

People get sick with colds, coughs or flu due to viruses; therefore they do not require antibiotics as a remedy. Drinking plenty of liquids such as water, broth soup, tea with honey and electrolyte drinks is one way to alleviate symptoms quickly. As much as possible, you should remain at home to avoid spreading germs to others.

2. Get help from friends and Family

Enlist the assistance of friends or family to shop and do household tasks when you are feeling poorly; ask someone else to grocery shop on your behalf as well as take care of any necessary household duties while you’re sick.

3. Eat a healthy diet

When you are sick, eating healthily is vitally important. While this doesn’t mean giving up all your favorite foods, try to balance them out with healthier options for optimal wellness and recovery. Achieving this balance may also help prevent illness and hasten recovery faster. Furthermore, having someone assist with grocery shopping and running errands allows you to rest faster; additionally they could provide assistance with medications or any other needs during this time.

4. Stay away from crowded places

Influenza, cold and stomach flu viruses spread rapidly from one person to the next by means of infectious droplets emitted when coughing or sneezing, touching surfaces that harbor germs (feces or saliva), breathing droplets into their respiratory system or touching frequently touched surfaces that carry germs.

5. Isolate yourself

If someone in your household is sick, take steps to minimize exposure to others and limit disease transmission as much as possible. Enlist the assistance of family and friends nearby in providing groceries, walking the dog and running other errands if necessary; consider using video chatting services like Skype to keep in contact. When venturing outside for any reason whatsoever, cover both mouth and nose when coughing/sneezing using single-use tissues if you must go outdoors.

6. Get plenty of rest

Most minor illnesses like colds or the flu are caused by viruses and don’t need medical intervention, though drinking plenty of water and taking anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen or paracetamol may help ease symptoms and promote healing. Sleep is also essential in order to help your body restore itself; staying home when feeling unwell would prevent germ spread; alternatively if necessary use a mask while in close quarters with coworkers so as to not spread germs to them as well!

7. Take a warm bath

When sick, it’s wise to remain at home rather than venture into public. Not only will this protect against spreading your germs to others, but also speed up recovery time. If you do venture out, be sure to wash hands frequently and wipe down high-touch surfaces; dress in layers; cover coughs/sneezes with tissues if possible and cover any coughs with tissue; warm clothing can help as can the Kelly Ripa bath which involves mixing two cups of Epsom salts with an entire bottle of hydrogen peroxide into an existing hot tub — this method helps reduce inflammation from many illnesses while fever prevents its use!
