– The store's Signature Service Digital Wellness Hub is backed by employees' mission to go above and beyond to honestly and accurately represent every piece of merchandise, ensuring everything is authentic and ethically acquired. In the watch department, the watchmaker is able to service modern and vintage watches as well as do custom strap/bracelet extensions or repairs with the help of our expert jewelers. Any repairs that cannot be accommodated in-house are sent to the manufacturer. Then consider the inclusion of Citizen's Eco-Drive technology, which uses any source of light – be it indoors or outdoors – to power the watch. Not only does this eliminate the need for a battery and therefore prevent a power failure, but it can also be used in environments where typical solar-powered watches wouldn't work. Even a flashlight could charge the watch if it's needed. As much as I agree with the philosophy, the watch still has to stand on its own and the MK1 is nothing short of a classic. I like how little they've done to augment the base appeal, with no obvious branding on the dial and lume coloring that feels intentional but not heavy-handed nor too neo-vintage.
We’ve partnered with Omega to bring you a four-part video series of Speedmaster collectors telling their own, personal stories about their Speedmasters, and what makes the model so uniquely fascinating. This is part three Viral Urbex Challenges of four. Enjoy. As for the dial, we call this baby a "Temecula dial," paying homage to the classic horological tradition of combining Arabic and Roman numerals. The design speaks to those who see the sprawling metropolis as their playground, where a vast horizon of empty corporate skyscrapers evokes infinite possibilities. The dial of the watch is designed to evoke the face of the Minotaur, who was a half-man, half-bull monster inhabiting a labyrinth built by the king of Crete. The king was Minos (Minotaur is "Bull Of Minos") – the dial's decorated with a labyrinth motif. The moonphase indication has been replaced, as well – by a two-letter display of the day of the week, which does an excellent job representing the nose of the monster.
I chose this piece because it has a lot of Piaget's style elements: the gold work and combination of two ornamental stones. The presence of colour is very strong, Forot says. The bark effect also nods to Piaget's main muses – nature and couture – while the Metaverse Fabriken clasp highlights the engineering (it's hidden behind the colored plates, for a fully integrated look). And they're powered, of course, by the 9P movement.Included throughout are fun facts that explain the origins of things we take for granted today: the 24 knuckles and joints on our hands (thumbs not included) may be the basis for our 24-hour days; when Robert Hooke invented the metal hairspring, it represented an improvement over the literal hog's-hair bristle that preceded it; Rolex's five-pointed crown was inspired by the five fingers of the human hand, recognizing the handcraft that goes into every watch. And I'm here to say that just ain't true. Yes, the squared-off markers are an obvious reference, but it basically starts and ends there. The numerals themselves are basically part of the same numeral package Rolex uses on any of its modern watches and does not appear to have any tie-in with the Newman styling. Now that I've gotten that off my chest we can move on.
