Write a set of weird rules (futuristic society) using modal verbs
60 minutes)
-
Read Watch Listen104Study the grammar section on modal verbs in your SB on p. 139 and the teacher handout.
-
Discuss154Discuss the setting to which your regulations should apply (think of public institutions like kindergarten, schools, hotels, swimming pools, sports arenas or places like parks, motorways and roads, ski resorts, beach etc). Brainstorm which rules and regulations you could include in your list. Decide on the weirdest and most grotesque rules. Decide on 4 rules each to represent a prohibition, permission, recommendation or lack of obligation and on the grammar you need to express them.
-
Collaborate304Use the link in moodle to access the document for your group. Using your iPads, collaborate by writing your ideas on one google doc in real time. Decide which group members will check on grammar (correct use of modals), spelling and punctuation, and content (grouping the sentences into the 4 categories; degree of grotesqueness).
-
Produce4Produce one page, divided into appealing layout (addition of suitable images optional)
