King Cake Burger Is the Stuff Mardi Gras Dreams Are Made Of

Behold the king cake burger mash-up.

With Mardi Gras around the corner, America's continuing burger obsession has sparked the latest insane food mash-up: the King Cake Burger. Born at the Food Drunk truck in New Orleans, the burger features a brisket patty and slice of sharp cheddar cheese blanketed by a brioche bun smeared with white icing and bedecked with purple, green and gold sprinkles, in homage to the official cake of Mardi Gras.

"We love the concept of sweet and savory, and obviously we had a few cocktails, which is where some of the greatest ideas ever come from," Food Drunk owner P.J. Haines said.

Drawing Cronut-level lines, Food Drunk has been selling about 150 of these burgers a day, making it the truck's number one seller.

America's Wackiest Burger Buns

"It's been extremely popular," Haines said. "Anyone who's tried it liked it. People have described it as like your dessert and your meal at the same time. A perfect combination."

Food Drunk plans to have two trucks on the Mardi Gras parade route to meet demand. But those looking for a lucky baby in the burger won't find one.

"No babies," Haines clarified. "Not very safe for people during Mardi Gras."
