When I was growing up, we only had this tiny shack of an Asian market so most of the time we would make regular trips to Korean grocery stores in Chicago. More recently, I kept hearing about this place so I had it bookmarked to check out the next time I was visiting family. Before we visit, my husband and I load up suitcase with non-perishable Asian goods since it's cheaper where we live. So the pricing was fairly fresh in our mind when we stopped by Pacific Rim. I was pleasantly surprised that most of the pricing was within a few dollars of what we paid in LA. I think if you need anything in a pinch, this is the perfect place. Although I have to say that the Sriracha was double the cost here, but that's pretty understandable.
They have a wide variety of just about everything. Pho noodles, pad thai noodles, Korean style noodles, sauces, frozen goodies, sake, soju and veggies. It also looks like they rotate out their fresh produce with whatever is in season so it was nice checking to see whatever was new. Staff here is friendly and very helpful. Their restaurant always seems busy, so it'll be nice if they can one day expand and have a sit down spot at some point. It also seems like they rotate out some dishes so they can offer a variety. My mom really wanted to try their jjampong, but when we went to look for it, it wasn't on the menu. I'm so happy that Kalamazoo/Portage has better options now for Asian groceries and food.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Paige V.Saint Joseph, MI02Apr 10, 2024
I love this place so much. If I lived closer, I would get all my meals from here; forget about grocery shopping. I want to try everything each time I come, but I typically choose a ramen and get 1 or 2 Vietnamese coffees.

This is, hands down, one of my very favorite stores in our entire country. I feel SO lucky to have such extraordinary offerings here in Kalamazoo, and thank the team at Pacific Rim for being here.
If you've ever traveled to Asia, you'll walk in and find yourself right at home. If you haven't yet, well, this is a quick chance for you to explore more.
Things I love about Pacific Rim:
SELECTION! Oh my goodness. If you need it, they have it.
Kindness: In spades. The staff are amazing.
Many Asian cuisines represented
So much to learn about and taste
THE BOBA TEA!
Dishes, rice cookers, all kinds of kitchen goodness
Fresh vegetables and kimchi (YUM)
Daily fresh steamed bao (OMG!!!!!), get it quick before they run out. (The store opens at 10am)
Chicago bakery/food run comes in every Friday late afternoon.
Frozen offerings
ALL kinds of snacks and beverages (including alcohol, if you're missing your Suntory)
And the Cravings Deli
When we moved to Kalamazoo, I had no idea that we would have such a delicious, cultural gem right in our own backyard. Thanks to Anson and family for this goodness!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 2Nov 8, 2017Previous reviewAsian cuisine is my favorite to eat - and make - since living in Japan years ago. Whenever we move to a new place, I look for the best Asian store, so I'm not without all that goodness.
Pacific Rim is an extraordinary store - packed to the RIM with items from an array of Asian cuisines. Whether you love kimchi or mochi, char siu or dumplings, you will find it here. It's easy to wander the aisles and fill your cart with all kinds of happiness. Find seasonal calpis or everyday fresh turmeric and ginger. Get a slew of fresh noodles, or dried. The tea selection is extensive. And on Fridays, PR has freshly-made food from Chicago (including BAO! thank you!).
You can also get your staples, like sauces, tofu, veggies, and the like.
One more thing: the staff/owners are incredible. VERY friendly and helpful. Sign up for a cooking class! - Feb 21, 2023

Came to the restaurant located in this store for dinner, but was pleasantly surprised by all the Asian items here. The assortment was quite impressive, especially given this was in Portage, MI.
Would definitely come by here if I'm ever in town and in need some Asian food items.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 28, 2022
Best ramen place in the Kalamazoo area! The vegan dumplings are awesome and every variation of ramen is amazing.
It is a self service style restaurant where you order at the counter, pick up your food, choose a seat, and clean up yourself. It is located inside a market which gives it a cool vibe.
10/10 would recommend this place!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Meg R.Kalamazoo, MI123748Sep 27, 2022
Visited Pacific Rim for the first time. I went in specifically for boba tea because I haven't tried it before. The store is very spacious and upon walking in, I walked straight back to "Cravings Deli." I was greeted by 2 employees who were SO nice and welcoming! My anxiety for being a first time customer was gone. I ended up getting what one of them recommended and I literally chugged it LOL. It was so so good!
Also - the wait time for my tea was less than 3 minutes. All of the workers were friendly and eager to help! There are also tables and an area to sit and work - or chat and drink your boba tea with friends.
I cannot wait to go back and just walk around the store with my boba tea!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Mr Devon P.Columbus, OH042Aug 30, 2023

This place was awesome! If we hadn't already eaten lunch, I would have loved to try some of the food they were cooking!
I was able to find a few great things that I've had a hard time finding in Battle Creek, like my favorite sweet soy sauce and certain types of ramen (they have a ton). Big selection of snacks and candy and all sorts of grocery items, frozen foods, fresh baked goods. I tried a caramel crunch dessert and a berry cake that were both fantastic. They have so many great things here!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Bree F.MI, MI31May 7, 2023
