Australian twins had 'suicide pact' at US firing range

An Australian woman whose identical twin was shot dead at a US firing range has told police she and her sister were carrying out a suicide pact.

Colorado police said they had "planned to commit suicide together, and did in fact shoot themselves".

The 29-year-old woman was critically injured in the incident at the Family Shooting Center in Cherry Creek State Park, south-east of Denver on Monday.

Both women were shot in the head - one was pronounced dead at the scene.

Arapahoe County Sheriff's Capt Louie Perea said physical evidence and surveillance video footage supported the woman's claims that the incident "was indeed a suicide and an attempted suicide".

He said the woman had given no indication of why she and her sister had wanted to kill themselves.

The names of the women have not yet been released, while police confirm their identities. They are reported to have come from Victoria state in Australia and to have been in the US for about five weeks.
