"German insurance company LVM has switched 10,000 laptop and desktop
machines over to Ubuntu Linux with the help of Ubuntu creator Canonical
(announcement). Some early reports on the net have hailed this as a
victory for Linux, but it seems like the company was already a mixed
shop of Windows and Linux machines with a long history of reliance on
open source software."

I'm sure its been mentioned before, but lets just remind ourselves....

http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/german-company-switches-10000-machines-ubuntu

Without getting into dumping Windows for Linux (which is not strictly
correct) We should take note of:

" it seems like the company was already a mixed shop of Windows and
Linux machines with a long history of reliance on open source software."

Which is probably the most encouraging part. How many other companies
are using a "mixture" and will be looking towards Linux migration in the
future?

Exciting times? I think so. 0.7% market share? Whatever, Linux isn't
going anywhere and just like other Microsoft competitors, its eating
away at the Redmond company.

And talking of competitors.....Didn't Bad Boy Ballmer say he was going
to "F**king bury Google"? - Whens that supposed to be happening...?

Kindest regards

Goblin.

Yeah, you got that right. Linux can't run and it can't hide on its way
to nowhere. :)

You're only a month late with this, Gooblin.

A lot. Where they used to pay for Unix, many companies now use free of
cost Linux. Linux took almost no server business from MS.

In fact, you could even say the Linux server business is dying quickly
(well, if you were a 4th rate moron and liar like Roy Spamowitz you might):

"Windows has just widened its already sizable lead over Linux on servers."

A very, very, very few.

And it's free of cost? That makes it a huge failure.

Everywhere else in life a *quality* product that's free causes
stampedes... but Lunix crapware sits on the shelf collecting dust.

uh huh... sure it is bozo... eating away at half a pinkie-toe.

No, he didn't say that. He said he was going to "fucking kill Google"

http://battellemedia.com/archives/2005/09/ballmer_throws_a_chair_at_fing_google

Regardless, that will never happen. Bing is really good - better than
Google at some things I think. But Google is way entrenched.

Didn't dozens of Linux morons say for the last 10 years that Linux would
win, or is winning, or won, or "Ubuntu will be corporate America's
desktop soon"? When's any of that going to happen?

News is light these days.

Guess Goobs was listening.

Nor did they take hollywood production houses from Microsoft.
They were SGI and other 'nixs.

Very few that actually continue past the first stage of Linux
migrations.

Linux is the operating system that pisses people off.

It isn't.
Bing is decent but Google owns the market.
I use both.

Microsoft designed the Bing "search engine" (using the term very loosely,

they? The Google engineers had a good laugh over it, though, so I guess
something good came of it.

But since Linux journal only just ran the story AND it was a correction
that it had not been a migration as such because the FOSS software was
already being used, I thought it was important to add again.

Mind you, old or not, it doesn't change that its happening.

Oh, so thats ok then.

So when is he going to "f**king kill" Google then?

I personally think from a PR point of view "bury" sounded better, but
thanks for the correction.

Sweaty Ballmer doesn't have the balls to "f**king kill" anyone, that's
why he hides behind shell companies and fake grass-roots organisations
who try to do it for him, and gets people to sign NDAs to silence them
when his bluffs fall flat.

I suppose its very much like the fake funeral Microsoft staged for the
iPhone as a PR stunt......all looks rather silly now....

So maybe thats two questions for Ballmer or one of our resident
Wintrolls. When is he going to do this killing of Google and when is
the funeral of iPhone going to occur?

I already answered the "killing of Google", but as usual you're too
chickenshit and slimy and dishonest to respond:

"When is Linux going to "win" as the "advocates" have been claiming year
after year after year?"

It's you and your kind that have no balls, [H]ypocrite.

Gates and Allen and Ballmer went out and built the most financially
successful business in history, and made themselves and many others
extremely wealthy, and created a worldwide standard for computing, and
have driven the PC industry for 20+ years, and as corporate and private
citizens have given gigantic amounts of money to charities.

You sat in your basement and played Windows games and smoked and whined
and lied and sniveled on cola. See a difference?

The entire Linux/OSS "movement" is based on theft and copying and
cloning and dumping half-ass software on the market for no charge with
anti-competitive intentions to bring down MS and other commercial
organizations. It's actually a kiddie-criminal enterprise by and for
inept "developers" like you and Linosuck.

You've answered me? lol..... I asked you to tell me when Ballmer was
going to do it.....not if you thought he would.

"Regardless, that will never happen." - Is what you said. Please don't
you be slimy.

Did I say Linux was to win? Pull me up on my comments not that of
others that you claim....If I want to respond to the claim of
anyone...I'll let you know.

However if we are talking about winning, when you see the diverse range
of devices Linux is on, then I'd say its won already.

I heard that DooFy's ex-wife still keeps his balls in a pickle jar next
to her bed, that way she always falls asleep with a big, cheesy grin on
her face. DooFy don't mind though, 'cause he's got his favourite pic of
Sweaty the Impaler next to his bed, with him looking really constipated
and sweaty, holding a grease-gun in one hand and a banana in the other.

You are, indeed. So much so that all you can do is snip-n-run.

Don't feel slighted, Gooblin; I would've put your name in there, but
you're not a Linux "developer". You're way down the totem pole -
appearing alongside such luminaries as 7 and Dumb Willie and HPT.

In my view, a CEO of a big company should never let himself get caught
cursing or raging like that. Ballmer's always been "enthusiastic" - and
I bet people like working with him - but throwing a chair and cursing
and ranting about "killing Google" is juvenile.

On the other side, FSF "Executive Director" Peter Brown dancing around
in a GNU-head costume in public and chanting "we want freedom now!" and
throwing fake Windows and Mac boxes in a big trash can is positively
kindergarten-level behavior.

How would you compare DFS behaviour to that of chrisv or Chris Ahlstrom?
Both of whom routinely swear and claim that MS is evil but admit to
making their money from MS related SW.
